Equipment

  • Baking sheet (with a rack recommended)

Ingredients

  • 4 russet potatoes
  • 8 slices bacon thin-sliced, about 1-2 slices per potato
  • 8 ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese or shredded cheese of choice
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2-3 green onions sliced
  • 4 Tablespoons butter

See our Beef Temperature Chart for helpful tips on cooking any cut of beef!

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. While the oven preheats, scrub and rinse your potatoes and dry them thoroughly with a paper towel or clean cloth. Slice green onions and grate cheese if necessary.

  • Wrap the potatoes with 1-2 slices of bacon each, overlapping the slices. Remember, the bacon will shrink in the oven. To hold the bacon in place, pierce the potato through the bacon with a few toothpicks.

  • Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and bake 55-60 minutes. They should become tender and fluffy inside and the bacon will be crispy. Remove and allow to cool 10 minutes or until cool enough to handle.

  • Once they cool off, remove the toothpicks. You want to make sure the potatoes are cool enough to touch. Then, cut a slit in the top of each one, and push on the ends to open the potatoes up.

Notes

  • You can add whatever toppings you like to your steakhouse baked potatoes. Classic toppings like sour cream, green onions, and cheese are always a good choice, but there are plenty of options to choose from, like steakhouse mushrooms or caramelized onions.
  • If you don't want to wrap them in bacon, you can skip this step and leave out the toothpicks.
  • Use a baking sheet with a rack so air circulates around the potato entirely.
  • You can also air fry baked potatoes by piercing them all over with a fork, then air frying at 400°F for 40 minutes.
