Rib Rub FAQs
For optimal results, let the ribs rest after adding the rub overnight, or for at least 6 hours. This will give the seasonings plenty of time to infuse into the meat and ensure that it stays super flavorful with a crispy crust.
Pork ribs are a perfect blank canvas to pile with seasonings! Typically pork pairs very well with sweet, earthy, and spicy seasonings such as brown sugar, chili powder, onion, garlic, and paprika. I like to make a combination of all those flavors together to make the perfect mix!
You can apply some oil to the ribs before adding dry rub, but it's not necessary. The natural moisture of the meat will be plenty enough to keep the rub stuck on, and working it into the meat with your hands will help it even more. Definitely don't add mustard- it's just a big mess!
As a naturally mild meat, pork ribs benefit from not only adding sauce, but a thick coating of flavorful dry rib rub. Vigorously rubbing in a seasoning blend into the meat and then letting it rest will infuse the meat with flavor even before adding sauce!
