Best Pork Rub
It goes without saying how much I love pork recipes, but one of the reasons I love them is how well they pair with sweet and savory seasonings. This pork rub recipe is the result of combining my family's favorite seasonings for pork, and I can guarantee you will love it, too!
Originally a pork rub for smoking, this seasoning pairs very well with smoked pork butt and pulled pork; however, you can use it for any pork recipe you like. The flavors are classic for pairing with pork and have the perfect balance of savory, sweet, and spicy.
Pork Rub Ingredients
- Brown sugar
- Salt
- Pepper
- Paprika
- Garlic
- Minced onion
- Chili powder
- Olive oil (for coating the pork)
How to Make a Pork Rub
- Add all ingredients except salt to a bowl.
- Thoroughly mix together until completely combined.
- Rub the pork with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt all over.
- Sprinkle with the remaining pork rub and pat it down to coat the pork completely.
Pork Rub Recipe Tips
- Adding salt before the remainder of the pork rub helps the salt seep into the meat and adds better flavor. However, if you are making the pork rub ahead of time, you can also mix it with salt to store it all together. It will still be delicious.
- You can adjust the level of brown sugar and chili powder based on how sweet or spicy you would like it to be.
Pork Rub for Smoking
I love using this recipe for pork rub when I make my Smoked Boston Butt! It results in the juiciest smoked pork.
Pulled Pork Rub
This is also the perfect rub for pulled pork. Many times I use it when making my crock pot pulled pork recipe!
Pork Rub Recipes FAQs
You can apply pork rub to the pork directly before cooking - no need to allow it to marinate. This pork rub recipe pairs best with grilled, smoked, or roasted pork dishes, and can be applied right before the pork is added to the heat.
To make this pork rub stick, coat your entire cut of pork with olive oil before patting it down with the rub. Pat it down with your hands to ensure the seasoning sticks to the meat before cooking.
