Korean Ground Beef Recipe Substitutes
- Minced garlic: You can also use garlic paste.
- Low-sodium soy sauce: You can also use tamari shoyu or coconut aminos.
- Brown sugar: Try coconut sugar if you prefer.
- Red pepper flakes: For a similar kick of heat but extra Korean flavor, try using a bit of Gochujang in place of red pepper flakes.
How to Serve Korean Ground Beef
You can serve Korean ground beef in so many ways - my favorite ways are in Korean beef tacos, as lettuce wraps, or simply over rice!
- Korean beef tacos: Serve in tortillas with a bit of kimchi and spicy mayonnaise.
- Lettuce wraps: Serve with sliced green onions in soft lettuce cups.
This easy Instant Pot recipe includes instructions for preparing rice. The rice cooks in the pot with the beef, which produces the most incredible flavor - the rice soaks up the flavor of the beef as it cooks, making it extra tasty!

Yes! Korean ground beef will store well in the freezer for about 2-3 months. Allow to cool, then add to freezer-safe bags labeled with the freezing date for easy portions to use. Allow to thaw, then reheat in the Instant Pot or on the stove.

Do I need to change the cooking time for brown rice instead of white rice?
Em Beitel says
Hi Essess! Brown rice would take longer to cook, but we've only made this particular recipe using white rice. Please let us know how it turns out.
Essess says
Does the 1 cup of water go in the bottom pan, or go in the rice pan? This recipe sounds like you put the rice into the pot dry, but all the PIP rice recipes I'm finding say to put the water with the rice and some even have you put water in both. I'm not sure whether the rice is supposed to be in water in this recipe?
Em Beitel says
Hi Essess! The rice and beef both cook together in the same pot - they cook in the water at the same time.
