    Philly Cheese Steak Dip

My family and I cannot get enough of this Philly Cheese Steak Dip. Not only is it so easy to make, but it's packed with all of the flavor you love in a classic cheese steak, just like my Cheesesteak Sliders.

    • It's budget-friendly
    • Simple to prepare
    • Ready in less than 15 minutes
    • Takes just 5 steps

And, you can do so much with it! Serve it up on a bun to make Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes, or use it as a filling for Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls. You could even stuff peppers with the dip to make Philly cheesesteak stuffed peppers!

    Ingredients in Philly Cheesesteak Dip

    • olive oil
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • garlic
    • onion - I recommend yellow onion
    • Italian seasoning
    • ground beef
    • flour
    • green bell pepper
    • salt & pepper
    • American cheese

It's always up to debate what cheese you should use for classic Philly cheesesteak cheese. You can use any melty cheese you enjoy in a cheesesteak, such as provolone cheese or even cheeze whiz.

In this case, I use yellow American cheese and cook it right into the mix for a cheesy, delicious dip. White American cheese can also be used.

You can also use chopped deli roast beef or steak strips to make this dip. Follow the same instructions.

    Philly Cheesesteak Seasoning

For this recipe, I use a mix of salt and pepper plus Italian seasoning. This is perfect for making Philly cheesesteak with ground beef as it adds so much flavor with just a few ingredients. You can also add a kick of heat by tossing in some chili flakes!

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Dip

    Instant Pot

    1. Set your Instant Pot to saute mode. Once hot, add olive oil. When it heats and begins to shimmer, add chopped green pepper and chopped onion, as well as minced garlic. Saute for 2-3 minutes or so.
    2. Add ground beef and stir, cooking until it browns.
    3. Once browned, add in Worcestershire sauce and then flour. Stir to incorporate. Finally, season with Italian seasoning and salt and pepper to taste.
    4. Set your Instant Pot to high pressure for 5 minutes. Once done, carefully quick release the pressure. We always do this holding a hand towel.
    5. Once done releasing pressure, open the lid and add in American cheese. Stir to incorporate until the ground beef mixture reaches a creamy consistency.
    6. Remove to an oven-safe dish and place under the oven broiler for just a couple of minutes to melt extra cheese over the top. Serve, and enjoy!

    On the Stove

    1. Place an oven-safe pan, such as a cast iron skillet, on the stove over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once hot and shimmering, add chopped green pepper, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Saute 2-3 minutes.
    2. Add ground beef and stir, breaking apart the beef. Cook until the beef browns all over.
    3. Once browned, add in Worcestershire sauce and flour. Stir to incorporate, then season with Italian seasoning and salt and pepper, to taste.
    4. Cook for another 7-10 minutes, until well-mixed and cooked through.
    5. Stir in American cheese. Mix until fully incorporated and the dip reaches a creamy consistency.
    6. Add extra cheese over the top, then remove from the stove and place under the oven broiler for 2 minutes to melt (optional). Serve and enjoy!

Philly Cheese Steak Dip Recipe FAQ

What is a good melting cheese for Philly cheesesteak?

The best choices of cheese for a Philly cheesesteak sandwich or dip are American cheese, provolone cheese, or even cheese whiz. Some Philly cheesesteak dips also incorporate cream cheese in addition to cheese; you can mix some in if you'd like the dip to be extra creamy.

How do you store leftover cheesesteak dip?

Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. You can easily make it ahead of time this way. Reheat leftover dip in a skillet on the stove over low heat or in the Instant Pot on warming mode until heated through, and make sure to give it a good stir.

What do you serve with Philly Cheesesteak dip?

The best dippable foods for this recipe are chips, sliced baguette chips, potato wedges, fries, and even toasted garlic bread. My family also loves this dip with tortilla chips, pita chips, pretzels, fresh vegetables, and crackers!

It makes a great, easy game day appetizer. If you make it on the stove, you can serve it right in the skillet for a fun presentation.
