    Easy Goulash with Beef

One of my favorite dinners to serve my family is goulash. It's a quick, simple dinner recipe you can make all in one pot, not to mention budget-friendly and delicious!

Goulash has been one of my family dinner go-to recipes for years, but recently I decided to try making it in the Instant Pot. The results were even better than my expectations! Pressure cooker goulash with beef takes a family-favorite recipe and makes it even easier to make. What could be better than that?

Complete with ground beef, egg noodles, tomatoes, and the perfect blend of seasonings, this is more than just an easy beef goulash recipe. It's the best goulash with beef you'll ever try!

    Beef Goulash FAQ

How is goulash different from spaghetti?

Although spaghetti and goulash share similar ingredients, when making spaghetti, the noodles are cooked separately. This is not the same as cooking a goulash, where the noodles are cooked in the sauce in a pot.

How do you make goulash tender?

By using ground beef as the meat for Instant Pot goulash, cooking a tender goulash is easy. No extra steps are necessary; simply brown the meat, then cook it in the Instant Pot at high pressure for 8 minutes. This makes a tender and delicious beef goulash recipe without any hassle.

How long do you cook goulash in an Instant Pot?

To make goulash in the Instant Pot, you must first saute the meat and onions with some of the seasonings until the meat is browned. This will take around 8 to 10 minutes. Then, cook the beef and noodles in the sauce at high pressure for 8 minutes and quick release the pressure. In total, it will take about 22 minutes to pressure cook goulash.

What is the difference between goulash and stew?

Technically, there is no difference between a goulash and a stew. A goulash is simply a type of Hungarian stew, traditionally containing meat and vegetables. The primary difference between a traditional goulash and an American goulash is the addition of noodles.

    • Butter
    • Chicken broth

Although I make my Instant Pot goulash with beef, other meats, such as ground pork, chicken, or turkey may also be used. Test and see what suits your family best.

    Recipe Tips

    • If you want to thicken the sauce for your goulash a bit more, you can make a cornstarch slurry by mixing equal parts cornstarch and cold water, or add a light dusting of flour to the beef pieces before sauteing them.
    • Try topping beef goulash with cheese after cooking. A cheesy addition is a great choice for serving kids!
    • Beef broth can be used instead of chicken broth in this recipe, but I don't recommend using water, as it will not have as much flavor. However, if you want less salt in the recipe, water can be used.
    • Fresh tomatoes can be used instead of canned diced tomatoes, if desired.
    • You can use any type of pasta you like for this dish, not just egg noodles.
    • For an extra dash of flavor, try adding a bit of Worcestershire sauce. I would add 1 to 2 tablespoons.
