    Steak Fries Recipe

Who doesn't love steak fries? Whether you're cooking up a juicy steak, grilling up burgers for the family, or just craving a delicious side for dinner, baked steak fries are always a winner!

My favorite part? There are so many ways to spin this recipe! A sprinkle of dried rosemary makes for an aromatic fry perfect for lighter dishes, or get out the Parmesan and whip up my favorite Garlic Parmesan fry seasoning.

Trust me, you'll never want to stop making these fries. They're crispy on the outside with perfect soft centers that will take your oven fries to the next level! They're the perfect family-pleasing side for every occasion!

    Steak Fries FAQs

What is the best potato for fries?

Russet potatoes are the best for fries, hands-down! They are the perfect consistency and size for nice big oven fries, and soften up nicely while still holding their form.

Can I cut potatoes ahead of time?

You can cut potatoes for fries ahead of time so long as you store them correctly! Potatoes will turn brown after cutting, but you can prevent cut potatoes from turning brown if you store the slices in a bowl of cold water with vinegar and lemon juice.

Should I soak potatoes before baking?

Soaking potatoes is the trick that makes this the best Steak Fries recipe! Soaking the sliced potatoes in cold water allows them to lose some of their starch before baking. Less starch means crispier, more delicious fries!

    Should I flip oven fries?

Oven fries should be flipped, but the secret is that they should only ever be flipped once, around the 20-30 minute mark when they're getting nice and gold. Too much flipping can mean they never get that nice golden crisp!

    Steak Fries Ingredients

    • Russet potatoes
    • Olive oil
    • Paprika
    • Granulated garlic
    • Onion powder
    • Salt

Looking to add even more flavor? Try out these fantastic optional seasonings!

    • Dried rosemary
    • Black pepper
    • Fresh parsley

    How to make Steak Fries

    1. Rinse the potatoes very well, leaving the peels on. Cut each potato lengthwise in half, then lay flat and cut lengthwise again into quarters, then once more into eighths.
Four pictures. The first through third show hands cutting a potato into wedges. The last picture is a cutting board of cut potato wedges.
    2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. While the oven is heating, soak the wedges in a bowl of cold water for 10-15 minutes, then combine the olive oil, salt, and spices (except parsley) in a large bowl.
Hands holding a glass bowl of water filled with potato wedges.
    3. Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towel or a large tea towel. Once dry, tip into the bowl with seasonings, and mix until all the potatoes are evenly coated. Arrange the coated potatoes cut-side-down on the baking sheet, making sure none are overlapped.
Raw potato wedges coated in seasoning on a lined baking sheet.
    4. Bake for 20 minutes, then remove from the oven and flip using a spatula. Return to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, until the edges are golden and crisp. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh parsley, let cool for five minutes, then serve!

    Baked Steak Fry Tips

    • Make sure to always soak your potatoes before baking them! There's nothing as disappointing as a floppy steak fry, but by soaking them first, these fries are crispy and perfect every time!
    • Don't be tempted to flip the fries early! Letting them bake for a full 20-30 minutes before flipping them will assure a delicious crunchy-crispy fry.
    • Getting bored of the same seasoning? Change it up with any of your favorite seasonings- the cook time will be the same!
    • Try and get fresh, firm Russet potatoes for making steak fries. The better the potato, the better the consistency of the fry!

    Steak Fry Seasoning

Great steak fries are all about the seasoning, and the great thing about this steak fry recipe is that you can customize the seasoning to your tastes and cook it exactly the same way! My family loves changing it up with Parmesan, chili powder, or even sprucing it up with truffle seasoning for a foodie twist!

Here are some great options for flavor combinations!

    • Garlic Parmesan
    • Chili powder and cumin
    • White truffle oil
    • ...Or a hint of cayenne pepper for a real kick!

    How to Reheat Fries

Everyone knows the misery of a reheated fry that turns out dense and soggy. Don't worry- never have a sad, soggy fry again! The secret is to reheat fries in the oven, just like how you cooked them in the first place.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, spread the fries out on a lined baking sheet, and bake them again for 10 minutes, and voila! Crispy fries just like new. If you're reheating from frozen, heat for 15 minutes.

    Make-Ahead Frozen Fries

Making fries ahead of time? Freeze the fully baked fries for 1 hour spread out on a baking sheet, until fully frozen. Then, place the fries in a freezer-safe bag labeled with the freezing date, and pop them in the oven again as soon as fries are in demand.

What to Serve with Steak Fries

    • Grilled Ribeye Steak
    • Air Fryer Hamburgers
    • Slow Cooker Beef Ribs
    • Grilled Filet Mignon
    • Gourmet Loaded Burgers
    • Air Fryer Steak
