Steakhouse Baked Potatoes
If there's one thing my family loves just as much as the steak at a steakhouse, it's the baked potatoes. Steakhouse baked potatoes have the perfect texture and flavor for pairing with beef, and really, every time I've gone to one, I've aspired to perfect the baked potatoes I make at home!
This baked potato recipe has it all. It has the perfectly crispy skin, it's fluffy and buttery, and the fillings are balanced to complement not just the potato, but the beef you serve it with, too.
I guarantee you will love them! This recipe will remind you of your favorite steakhouse baked potato, all while having the convenience of being made at home with just a handful of ingredients in a few simple steps.
Crispy Oven Baked Potatoes Ingredients
- Russet potatoes
- Thin bacon slices
Baked Potato Toppings
- Extra sharp cheddar cheese
- Sour cream
- Green onions, sliced
- Butter
The best part about steakhouse baked potatoes is you can keep them simple, or have fun topping them however you like! I love wrapping my baked potatoes with bacon and filling them with cheese, sour cream, green onions and, of course, butter.
But, you can keep these crispy oven baked potatoes simple by using just sour cream and sliced green onions, or mix-and-matching your favorite toppings. They pair very well with my garlic butter for steak or even truffle butter!
How to Make Baked Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 350°F. While the oven preheats, scrub and rinse your potatoes and dry them thoroughly with a paper towel or clean cloth. Slice green onions and grate cheese.
- Wrap the potatoes with 1-2 slices of bacon each, overlapping the slices. Remember, the bacon will shrink in the oven. To hold the bacon in place, pierce the potato through the bacon with a few toothpicks.
- Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and bake 55-60 minutes. They should become tender and fluffy inside and the bacon will be crispy. Remove and allow to cool 10 minutes or until cool enough to handle.
- Once they cool off, remove the toothpicks. You want to make sure the potatoes are cool enough to touch. Then, cut a slit in the top of each one, and push on the ends to open the potatoes up.
- Fill with 1 Tablespoon butter each and top with shredded cheese, green onions, and sour cream. Enjoy!
Steakhouse Baked Potato Recipe Tips
- You can add whatever toppings you like to your steakhouse baked potatoes. Classic toppings like sour cream, green onions, and cheese are always a good choice, but there are plenty of options to choose from, like steakhouse mushrooms or caramelized onions.
- If you don't want to wrap them in bacon, you can skip this step and leave out the toothpicks.
- Use a baking sheet with a rack so air circulates around the potato entirely.
- You can also air fry baked potatoes by piercing them all over with a fork, then air frying at 400°F for 40 minutes.
Steakhouse Baked Potatoes FAQs
Although you do not need to soak your potatoes in salt water, you can take this extra step if you wish to encourage the potatoes to become crispier while baking. Salt water helps draw the moisture out of the potatoes, which will make them crispier in the oven. If you're not wrapping the potatoes in bacon, give this step a try.
You should not wrap a baked potato in tin foil as it will lock in moisture and create a steamed baked potato that is much less fluffy - and even less flavorful - than a potato cooked without foil.
