Truffle Butter Recipe
If you know me, you know butter is my best friend for making amazing sauces to pair with my best beef recipes. A good butter sauce can make any meal taste like the highest quality restaurant dinner, and this truffle butter recipe is the best of the best.
Creamy and decadent, homemade truffle butter is a welcome addition to steaks, burgers, prime ribs, and so much more. Try this butter sauce recipe with gorgeous ribeye, smoked burgers, sous vide prime rib or even steak bites for game day - no matter what you pair it with, you will be amazed by the flavor it adds.
My personal favorite pairing with this truffle butter recipe is wagyu steak. It truly does not get more decadent than that!
This butter is amazing! I want to put it on everything!

What is Truffle Butter?
Truffle butter is, essentially, softened compound butter mixed with truffle mushrooms, which are a rare variety of mushroom that grows underground. Truffles are difficult to find whole with the exception of specialty stores, but much easier to find sold in jars as pate. Both white truffle butter and black truffle butter varieties exist, but in the case of this recipe, black truffle pate is used for its excellent flavor combination with beef.
Black Truffle Butter Recipe Ingredients
- Softened high-quality butter
- Black truffle pate
- Kosher salt or sea salt and black pepper, optional
For making truffle butter recipes, I recommend using high-quality butter. Using unsalted butter will allow you to add salt to your liking, though you can also use salted butter.
How to Make Truffle Butter
- Slice softened butter into large chunks and add it to a medium mixing bowl.
- Add truffle pate to the bowl with the softened butter.
- Stir until fully combined and creamy. For best results, let it rest for 1 day in the refrigerator, or enjoy it immediately.
I love adding some truffle butter to my homemade rice recipe. It elevates the flavor to a new level and gives it a risotto flavor.

Truffle Butter Recipes Tips
- If the butter isn't quite soft enough, microwave it with the truffle for about 10-15 seconds. The oil from the truffle will aid in the mixing of the butter.
- This is a great recipe to add to many dishes such as steaks, pasta, and even as a dipping sauce for seafood.
- High-quality butter brings so much more to the table than cheaper options - most of which aren’t even real butter! Use high-quality butter for this recipe.
- If you allow your butter to sit in the fridge for about a day, the flavors really meld together and it's truly at its best.
- Store in the fridge, in a sealed container, for up to 2 weeks.
Truffle Butter Recipe FAQ
Truffle butter using truffle pate will last up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator when stored in a tightly sealed container. You can also freeze truffle butter in an airtight container, freezer bag, or tightly wrapped plastic wrap for 6-8 months. Label the container with the date when freezing.
Truffle butter is an excellent sauce for beef. Use truffle butter for dishes like steak, prime rib, burgers, or any other beef dish you wish to add it to. You can mix it into side dishes, too, like roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, and more.
What Does Black Truffle Butter Taste Like?
Black truffles have a naturally earthy and nutty taste, occasionally with notes of garlic. Mixing black truffle pate into butter to create a truffle butter recipe gives the butter those same tasting notes, creating a creamy and richly flavorful earthy butter.
It takes a regular steak experience to an over-the-top umami experience! Once you try it, you will be hooked.
Can I use truffle oil to make truffle butter?
Although you can use truffle oil to make truffle butter, real truffle pate will provide much more richly flavorful, creamy butter and more consistent results than truffle oil. If you decide to use oil, use very little to start with and taste after mixing, as the oil is concentrated and will be strong.
What to Serve with Truffle Butter
- Pan-seared Steak
- Sous Vide Ribeye
- Smoked Prime Rib
- Smoked Beef Short Ribs
- I love using truffle butter on Asparagus Fries and Steak Fries. It is perfect for any side dish.
