My recipe for Air Fryer Prime Rib is an easy way to serve a beautiful, perfectly cooked prime rib for the holidays! It's as simple as seasoning, roasting, serving and enjoying. You will be amazed at how much time and effort cooking prime rib in the air fryer saves you. Just 4 ingredients in hardly more than 1 hour!

Prime Rib in Air Fryer
If you know anything about me, you must know how much I love prime rib. I serve prime rib every year for the holidays and love to experiment with new ways to prepare it for my family.
I've sous vide, grilled, smoked, and even cooked prime rib in the Instant Pot. If there's a method out there, I have tried it! This air fryer prime rib is my most recent test, and oh, I can tell you confidently: you're going to love it!
Air frying prime rib has to be one of the easiest methods I have ever used to cook this cut of beef. It is so simple: all you do is season the roast and place it in the air fryer, checking it every now and then with a meat thermometer.
Using a 3-pound roast, this prime rib recipe serves up to 6 people. It's perfect for a family holiday gathering! If you love my air fryer steak and air fryer burgers recipes, you will go crazy over this easy prime rib recipe.

Air Fryer Prime Rib Roast Ingredients
- Boneless Prime Rib
- Kosher or Sea Salt
- Black Pepper
- Fresh Rosemary or Dried Rosemary
- Garlic Powder
How to Air Fry Prime Rib
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. While it heats, pat your prime rib roast dry. Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and chopped fresh rosemary. Pat the seasoning down to embed it in the roast.
- Spray air fryer tray with cooking spray and place the prime rib on the tray. Air fry at 400°F for 8 minutes to lock in the juices and sear the roast.
- Lower the temperature to 300°F. Cook the roast for 70 minutes, checking every 20 minutes using a meat thermometer. Pull the roast from the air fryer when it is 5 degrees below your desired degree of doneness for best results. For medium-rare, it should reach around 130°F when a meat thermometer is inserted in the thickest part of the beef.
- Remove the roast from the air fryer and cover with foil. Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
- After resting, slice with your best carving knife, serve, and enjoy!

- Let your roast come to room temperature before cooking it; this will ensure it cooks evenly throughout.
- Pull the roast from the air fryer at 5 degrees below your desired degree of doneness and let it rest for 15 minutes to finish cooking and lock in the juices before slicing. Always use a meat thermometer.

My hubby tried this recipe, and it blew away our expectations. Our air fryer did cook it a little faster but because of the 20-minute monitoring, he was able to not overcook it. Steakhouse quality prime rib! It was so yummy!

Perfect Prime Rib Temperature
Refer to my prime rib temperature chart and use a meat thermometer to ensure your roast reaches the perfect internal temperature. For best results, I recommend pulling your roast at 5 degrees below your desired doneness and letting it rest for 15 minutes before carving. It will come to temperature while resting.
Air Fryer Prime Rib FAQs
It takes 78 minutes total to cook a 3 lb. prime rib in the air fryer to about medium-rare. First, you sear the prime rib by cooking it at 400°F for 8 minutes. Then, you return it to the air fryer at 300°F for 70 more minutes, checking it every 20 minutes using an Instant Read Meat Thermometer.
For air frying prime rib, using a boneless prime rib is best as it will fit more easily into your air fryer.
Air fryer models vary and come in different sizes, so what fits in my air fryer may not fit in yours, and vice versa. My air fryer oven is 10 quarts and fits a 3 lb. prime rib. Make sure to double-check the size roast you want will fit your air fryer before purchasing!
The best way to tell when your air fryer prime rib is done cooking is to check it with a meat thermometer and refer to my prime rib temperature chart to make sure it reaches your desired degree of doneness.

Hello. There is something I do not understand. Halfway down the page there is a link to the perfect rub mix. On going there, you give the rub ingredient measurements as 2 tablespoons of salt, 2 tablespoons of pepper and 2 tablespoons of garlic. On the far bottom of the original recipe the measurements are 1 tablespoon of salt, 1/2 tablespoon of pepper and 1/2 tablespoon of garlic. That is a very big difference! Enough of a difference to ruin the outcome.

Hi Joseph! We use that recipe as an all-purpose rub for prime rib, but it was originally created for a larger prime rib than the one in this recipe. You would still want to use the measurements in this recipe. Sorry for the confusion!

We paid $19 for a 3 pound roast at Save a Lot. He lightly rubbed it in oil and applied a store brand seasoning and had steakhouse quality prime rib! It was yummy!

Dumb question here; is prime rib the same cut as a ribeye roast? If not, can I use the same cooking times? When I search for Air Fryer Ribeye Roast all that comes up is Prime Rib.
