    Seasoning for Steak

If you know me, you know I love my steak dinners. There is nothing like a perfectly cooked steak with a beautiful crust from seasoning. This is the best homemade dry rub I have ever tried and trust me - I've tried a lot of steak seasoning ideas!

I guarantee you're going to love this easy seasoning for steak. It's so easy to mix up using common spices from your pantry, but the results turn your average steak dinner into an incredible meal. It's the combination of the sweet and salty blends that make this the best seasoning for steak.

This seasoning is perfection. The sweet and salty combination is just perfect. I will never buy store bought seasoning again!

    Steak Rub Ingredients

    •  paprika
    • onion powder
    • garlic powder
    • sea salt
    • crushed red pepper
    • black pepper
    • brown sugar

Brown sugar is the secret ingredient that makes this rub so amazing. You get a nice caramelization when the steak hits the grill. The combination of a little sweet, a little spicy, and a little salty takes steak skills to a new level.

    How to Make Steak Seasoning

    1. Add all ingredients to a bowl.Steak seasoning mixture in a bowl
    2. Stir to mix together using a whisk or fork until completely combined.Steak seasoning mixed in a bowl with a whisk
    3. Store in an airtight container in a cold, dry place. Stir when ready to use again. Enjoy!Spooning out steak seasoning into a jar

    Best Steak Seasoning Tips

    • Adjust the spice levels: You can use more or less crushed red pepper to adjust the spice level of your seasoning for beef.
    • Adjust the sweetness: Use more or less brown sugar to make the steak seasoning a little sweeter or less sweet if you prefer.
    • Add more garlic: If you really love garlic (I know I do!), adjust to use more garlic powder for an extra garlicky flavor.

    How to Season Steak

Liberally season on all sides with your steak seasoning mix. Pat down the mixture with your hands so the meat soaks it up. This will give your beef a beautiful crust.

What are the Best Spices for Steak?

The best spices for steak emphasize the flavor of the meat without overwhelming it. We use a mixture of paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, crushed red pepper, sea salt, black pepper, and brown sugar to make our steak dry rub. This creates a sweet, salty, and spicy mixed with the perfect balance to elevate the flavor of any steak!

    Steak Temperature

Always use a meat thermometer when trying to get the perfect steak temp and follow our Steak Temperature Chart.

Medium-rare135°F - warm red in the middle

    Steak Rub FAQs

Should you season steak before cooking?

Yes. In all cases, we recommend seasoning your steak before cooking, whether you're grilling out or cooking it on the stovetop. Better yet, leave your steak to soak up the seasonings overnight in the refrigerator! Just make sure to let your steak come to room temperature before cooking it.

    How to Store Seasoning

Store homemade steak seasoning in an airtight container such as a glass jar. Since this mixture uses brown sugar, you'll need to give it a stir before using it again as it may clump together. Store in a cool, dark place.

How much steak rub to use?

Use 1 tablespoon of seasoning per pound of steak.
