    Best Grilled Sirloin Steak Recipe

There's nothing quite like a juicy, sizzling steak being cooked on a hot grill during the summer. The sound, smell, taste, and everything in between are the best!

Sirloin steak is a great option for a larger, more affordable steak that's packed with hearty beef flavors and tenderness. And the best part of Grilled Sirloin Steak? It's so easy with practically no clean-up. Season, rest, and grill - that's it!

    Grilled Sirloin Steak FAQs

Where does sirloin steak come from?

Sirloin steaks are typically cut from the primal loin, or the upper portion of the cow that runs under the backbone. Sirloin steaks can also be called boneless top sirloin steaks, or center-cut steaks. For more info, check out my post on steak cuts!

How long do you grill a sirloin steak?

Grill thin sirloin steak for about 3-4 minutes on each side until cooked through but still pink in the middle, then allow it to rest for at least 8 minutes covered in foil. For best results, always use a meat thermometer and follow our beef temperature chart to reach your desired degree of doneness.

What is grilled sirloin steak good for?

Grilled sirloin steak is so versatile; you could make nachos, kabobs, stir fry recipes, sirloin steak salads, and so much more. It is also delicious on its own, sliced with a side of roasted potatoes and steakhouse mushrooms.

Is sirloin steak good for grilling?

Sirloin steak is a perfect cut for grilling, as it is lean, but still has great tenderness and beefy flavor. For best results, you can cook sirloin steak either on the grill outside, or in a cast iron grill pan on the stove.

    Grilled Sirloin Steak Ingredients

    • Sirloin steaks
    • Juice of limes
    • Fish sauce
    • Garlic ginger paste

For this grilled sirloin steak recipe, I use an Asian-inspired marinade complete with lime juice, fish sauce, and garlic ginger paste. You can also use my Asian steak marinade or any marinade you like best, such as the one used for my chuck steak recipe or London broil marinade.

    How to Grill Sirloin Steak

    1. In a small dish, make the steak marinade by mixing together lime juice, fish sauce, and garlic ginger paste.
    2. Pour the steak marinade over sirloin steaks. Cover, and allow to soak for at least 20 minutes.

    3. Place a griddle pan or skillet over medium heat. When the pan is hot, carefully add the marinated steaks. Cook on each side for 3 to 4 minutes for a pink middle. You can also cook the steaks on an outdoor grill directly over medium heat.

    4. Remove the steaks from the pan or grill, and wrap them loosely in foil to rest for at least 8 minutes. Slice thinly against the grain to serve using a sharp knife.

For best results when cooking steak, always use a meat thermometer and follow this beef temperature chart to reach your desired degree of doneness.

    Degree of DonenessInternal Temperature
Rare125°F - bright red in the middle
Medium-Rare135°F - warm red in the middle
Medium145°F - warm pink at the center
Medium-Well150°F - slightly pink at the center
Well Done160°F - little to no pink throughout

    Tips for Grilling Sirloin Steak

    • Remove the steaks from the fridge and place them in a bowl at least half an hour before you plan to cook them. This allows time for the marinade to soak in and for the steaks to come up to room temperature.
    • Don't move the steaks or flip them during the 4 minutes on each side cooking time. If they begin to smoke a lot, reduce the heat slightly.
    • It is very important to let your steaks rest after pan frying. Keep them loosely wrapped in foil for the 8 minutes of resting time. This will keep them hot but allow them to rest as necessary.

How to Store Grilled Sirloin Steak

    • Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
    • Freezer: Store in an airtight container or vacuum-sealed bag for up to 3 months. Label with the freezing date!

How to Reheat Grilled Sirloin Steak

    • Microwave: I recommend slicing the steak before reheating and transferring it to a microwave-safe plate. Microwave for 30 seconds, then in 15-second intervals as needed.
    • Skillet: Over medium heat, add sliced steak and stir often until warmed through.
    • Oven: Transfer steak to a baking sheet and cover with foil, reheat at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until warmed through.
    • Air Fryer: Reheat steak in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes (depending on the thickness of your steak).
